Breathing

Breathing is one of the most important elements of any fitness program. The aim of deep nasal diaphragmatic breathing is to draw air into the lower lobes of lungs first for more effective oxygen exchange while exercising .

When we inhale the diaphragm contracts and lower rib cage expands along with the abdomen. When we exhale the lungs recoil, just like a balloon whose air is escaping. As we breathe though the mouth we fill the middle and upper past of our lungs with oxygen , but hardly ever reach the lower lobes.

List most mammals we are made for nasal breathing. At first, you will find it very hard to get used to nasal breathing, but with practice you will get used to breathing through your nose – even at high intensity level .

Some puritans use the nose for both, inhaling and exhaling.

When you gulp in masses of oxygen through your mouth, it goes to the upper and middle part of your lungs. Your heart beats rapidly to push the blood through your lungs more quickly to feed your muscles, giving the blood less time in the lungs, and virtually no time in the lower lobes of your lungs for really effective oxygen exchange.

Deep nasal diaphragmatic nasal breathing delivers oxygen to your lungs more effectively as it deliver the oxygen to the blood-rich lower lobes for more effective oxygen exchange.

While exercising, your should use your abdominal muscles to expel air from you lungs as you exhale. After doing that the inhalation becomes automatic

It’s a bit hard to get used to nasal breathing while doing high intensity training. I always end up breathing from my mouth only when I am out of breath
