Countering The Single Underhook

When your opponent manages to secure an underhook, you have to remain calm and relaxed. Stand in the pocket and start fighting to counter his dominant position.
Assuming that he secured a right underhook on your left side, start by pressing the inside of your left thigh into the outside of his right thigh then wrap you left arm around the back of his head and place your left hand on his ear. Use your left hand to rip his head to your left side and since your left leg is blocking him from taking a step with his right foot, his upper body gets pulled over his lower body, casting him off balance.
As your opponent tries to reestablish his balance, slip your left arm to the inside of his right arm and pummel in for a left underhook.

Countering The Double Underhook

If your opponent managed to secure a double underhook , you have to remain calm and relaxed as you do in the defending the single underhook. Start by settling your center and try to make yourself as heavy as possible. Then slide your thigh up to your opponent’s thigh. Always block the leg on the side opposite to your head. To cast your opponent off balance reach your left hand around his head, grab hold of his ear and pull his head to your left side. As your left leg is bloking his lower body from following his upper body , he is cast off balance – giving you the space to repummel your arms in and escape the double underhook.
