Defending The Take Down
September 26th, 2010 | Posted by in WrestlingDefending The High Single
When your opponent grabs your lead leg and starts working for the take down, you have to establish the over hook or whizzer on his near arm and grab a hold of his far wrist. If your opponent is keeping his head low, make sure you keep the over hook tight, let off his wrist and place you hand on the back of his head and then drive his head toward the mat. At the same time thrust your trapped leg behind you in order to keep all your weight on your opponent’s back . Once you leg is free, continue to collapse your opponent to the mat by driving your weight on him which leads you to the sprawl position.
Breaking the hold
When you opponent keeps his head up high, maintain the over hook on his near arm and your wrist control of his far arm. Then slightly drop your level to get your shoulder underneath his chin . To break his grip on your leg, lift his near arm up with the tight over hook and drive your shoulder up into his chin. force his lock down while maintaining wrist control.
Pushing the head out
If your opponent has a good positioning, release the over hook, reach around his head and place you hand on the side of his face, and then push his head underneath your arm and to the outside of your body. This will rob his leverage and positioning, allowing you to drop your leg back down to the mat , cut the corner and wrap him from behind.
Kick over
If your opponent manges to take you down, yo can use the kick over technique while keeping the over hook tight and changing your grip from the his far wrist to his near wrist. Roll backward by squatting down and leaning your weight back. The tight over hook and wrist control will force your opponent to come with you . As you roll on you hip keep one leg pinned against the inside if your opponent’s thigh. Your trapped leg will help carry your opponent over his back. The flip is mainly generated by the backward momentum.
