Foot Sweep

This is another technique that can be used when you execute the high single and your opponent hooks his captured leg around the outside of your near leg to keep you at bay and prevent your from running the pipe.
Instead of ripping his leg out of the way and go for the take down, slide the crook of your elbow around the back of his captured leg, pull his leg up into your armpit and then foots sweep him to the mat.

There is another variation of the foot sweep you can use when your opponent keeps his trapped leg between your leg and uses it as a rudder to maintain his balance. To set up the sweep, trap your opponent’s foot between your knees and then step your rear leg around his foot. This positions your opponent’s leg across your body which allows you to choke his leg up in your armpits. Then hook the crook of you arm around the back of your opponent’s knee and thrust you hips into his leg to create a shelf for his leg to rest upon. Step forward with your rear leg and instead of tripping him over your leg, hook you free hand around the back of his neck and pull him over your leg.
