Square Stance
From the square stance, spread your feet at shoulder’s width apart, keep your head up, slightly bend your knees and press your elbows tightly against your sides. Both of your feet should be planted on the same horizontal line – this will square your hips and provides a strong defensive posture.
The Staggered Stance
The staggered stance is not as strong in the defence, but it’s more offensive because one foot is positioned behind the other , allowing to drive forward off your rear foot and penetrate in the take down. It’s very important not to get too spread out as you are looking to be in a position to shoot and sprawl. The same as square stance, you head up, arms light to your sides and your knees slightly bent
Your palms could be facing up to better allow tie-up opportunities against your opponent.
The back and neck are held straight as one solid unit
In both stance you must maintain proper posture . When your opponent attacks, you have three primary three lines of defence( your hands, elbows and head ) to create an impenetrable wall.
