It is usually used as a remedy to calm and relax stomach and can relieve travel sickness and the congestion from cold. There are three types of mint: peppermint, spearmint and apple mint. The menthol oil found in peppermint are used as natural remedy for indigestion – the reason why mint tea is traditionally consumed after a rich meal. Menthol can also clear head and chest congestion during cold or flu. The oils are also antibacterial and may help prevent H.pylori, which causes stomach ulcers, and food poisoning bugs salmonella.
Mint contains plant chemicals known for blocking the growth of certain cancers in animals.
Mint is best enjoyed fresh as dried leaves lose much of its potency.
