Sardines are one of the best sources of omega-3 fats. They are usually eaten canned, which retains most of the nutrients of fresh sardines,  but fresh sardines contain more omega-3 fats, DHA and EPA. These fatty acids help prevent or control diseases such as  arthritis, cardiovascular and Alzheimer’s disease.  Sardines are one the few rich food in vitamin D, which helps form and  protect our bones.  Sardine are also high iron, vitamin E, vitamin B12 and selenium

Regular consumption of sardines can provide up to 50 per cent reduced risk of stroke.
