The Betaine found in beetroot is more potent as antioxidant than polyphenols, and it is also known for lowering blood pressure. Scientific studies have shown that the high level of nitrates in beetroot juice work like aspirin to prevent blood clots, and help protect the lining of the blood vessels. Red beetroot is also rich in anthocyanins, which may help prevent colon and other cancers.
Beetroot is a good source of iron, magnesium and folate.
