Peas are a rich source of vitamin C, minerals, fibre, protein and lutein. Their very high lutein and zeaxanthin content helps protect  they eyes from muscular degeneration. The B vitamin, the contain, may also help  protect the bones from osteoporosis and help to decrease  the risk of strokes  by keeping the levels of amino acid homocysteine low in the blood.

Peas are high in protein and are very useful for vegetarians. In addition, their high fibre content partly comprises pectin – a jelly like substance the helps  to lower ‘bad’ blood cholesterol and may also help prevent heart and arterial disease.
