The same as other citrus fruits, grapefruits contain bioflavonoids. compounds that increase the benefits of vitamin C. Grapefruits are low in the glycaemic index and very low in calories, which makes it ideal for dieters. Grapefruit juice can alter the effect of certain drugs – people who are medication should check their doctors before they consume the fruit.
The bitter taste of some grapefruits is caused by a compound called naringenin, which has cholesterol-lowering properties.
Grapefruits help reduce bouts of wheezing in asthma-prone people.
Grapefruit is delicious halved, sprinkled with demerara sugar and grilled for a short while.
